Global Environment Facility Paper 7.
Provides an overview of the status of country studies on climate change by drawing on the experience to date.
Comparisons of ecological and economic efficiency are essential in determining the eligibility of projects to receive funding from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). This paper examines several methodological and reporting issues and stresses the importance of comparability. Areas examined include inventories of sources and sinks of greenhouse gases, impacts and vulnerability assessments, response strategies and their cost-effectiveness, the implications of country projects that have transnational benefits, and the usefulness of country studies for government policymakers.
This is the fourth in a five-volume series of GEF Working Papers concerning the Program for Measuring Incremental Costs for the Environment (PRINCE).
